What is Law Admission Test

The Law Admission Test (LAT) in Pakistan is mandatory for admission to a five-year undergraduate LLB degree program. It is conducted by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan thrice every year. The test is designed to assess the aptitude of students for specialized fields such as lawyer, Consultant, Judge, Attorney, Prosecutor, etc.

Paper Pattern:

The LAT is a 100 marks test divided into two parts:

Objective part (70 marks): This part consists of multiple-choice questions on the following topics:

  • Logical reasoning
  • Analytical reasoning
  • English comprehension
  • General knowledge

Subjective part (30 marks): This part consists of essay-type questions on the following topics:

  • Current affairs
  • Law and Society
  • Critical thinking

To be eligible for the LAT, candidates must have either passed intermediate or are awaiting results. The minimum passing marks for the LAT is 50.

Test Schedule

As of September 16, 2023, the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan has not yet announced the schedule for the LAT in 2024. However, based on the past schedule, it is likely that the LAT will be held twice in 2024, once in the first half of the year and once in the second half.

The tentative schedule for the LAT in 2024 is as follows:

  • HEC LAT-1: February 2024
  • HEC LAT-2: August 2024

The last date to apply for the LAT-1 is January 2024, and the last date to apply for the LAT-2 is July 2024.

The HEC will announce the official schedule for the LAT in 2024 in due course.
